Frida
Khalo

“Nothing is worth more than laughter. It is strength to laugh and to abandon oneself, to be light.”

Frida Kahlo. Who am I?

Let me share a little story about my life.

I am Frida: uncompromising and brilliant. Mexico’s most famed artist, you will know me for my dazzling self portraits. From my trademark monobrow to my flower adorned hairstyles, I am unmistakable.

Fearless Frida

My discerning eye was cultivated from a young age. As a child, I picked up inspiration that would go on to influence my appetite for beauty and style in later life.

I was born on 6 July, 1907 in Coyoacán, Mexico City. Although the third of four daughters, I was never going to play the role of the quiet middle child. Instead, I was like a hurricane. I love carrying around my world with me, cramming my backpack full of rocks, dried butterflies and feathers, much to the intrigue of my classmates.

Broken but alive

At 18, travelling to school, on a crammed inner-city bus, I was involved in a terrible, bone-shattering accident. In the surreal manner in which the rest of my life would play out, I was hurled into the air; a bag of powdered gold, belonging to an artist travelling on the same bus, showered by body in fine, shimmering particles, giving way to a moment of absolute beauty amid the pain.

“I am not sick. I am broken. But, I am happy to be alive as long as I can paint”

With my spine broken in three places and confined to my bed, I started painting. I had passion running through my fingers. Everything that I was feeling I painted onto a canvas.

I found peace in nature. Painting the shapes, colours and forms of the trees, flowers, plants and animals of the world. “I paint flowers so they will not die”.

The immortal influencer

My unique style has inspired some of the greatest artists and fashion designers. There can be no doubt that I have shaped the future of fashion and culture. I am a true style icon.

“It is not worthwhile to leave this world without having had a little fun in life”

Today, more than ever, I am adored as an artist, respected as a feminist, praised for my perseverance, loved for my pride and obsessed over for my unapologetic style.

Hey! I now even have a bar named after me!

Welcome to Blame Frida!
